# Accessibility statement

PG Pulse should work for everyone in Prince George, whatever device, browser or assistive technology you use.

Last updated October 2, 2026

## The standard we aim for

We aim to meet the [Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2](https://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG22/) at level AA across the whole site. That is our target, not a certification: we test with automated tools and by hand, and fix what we find, but no one has formally audited the site.

## What you can expect

- **Keyboard.** Every page works without a mouse. A “Skip to content” link comes first, focus is always visible, and menus and dialogs close with Escape and return focus to where you were.
- **Phones and zoom.** Pages are built for screens 360 pixels wide and up, and reflow without sideways scrolling when you zoom to 200% or enlarge text.
- **Light and dark.** The site follows your system setting, and both themes are checked for colour contrast.
- **Less motion.** If your system asks for reduced motion, animations and smooth scrolling are switched off.
- **Charts and maps.** Charts come with a data table you can open, and maps have a list of the same places, so nothing is only shown visually.
- **Plain text versions.** Every page also has a plain Markdown version: add `.md` to the address (for example `/about.md`). Some people find it easier to read with a screen reader or reading tool.
- **Clear language.** We write in plain English, in sentence case, and explain local names and abbreviations.

## How we test

Before changes go live we check pages with the axe accessibility engine at phone and desktop sizes in both light and dark themes, check keyboard focus and tap target sizes, and look for horizontal scrolling at 360 pixels wide and at 200% zoom. We also run Lighthouse audits on key pages.

## Known limitations

- **Other people’s content.** News headlines, event listings and their images come from local publishers and organisers. We link to them but can’t fix accessibility problems on their sites, and their images may arrive without useful descriptions.
- **Interactive maps.** Panning and zooming the map itself is easiest with a mouse or touch. Every map has a list view with the same information.
- **Documents from other organisations.** Some City, provincial or community links open PDF files we don’t control.
- **The assistant.** Answers are written by an AI model and can be wrong. They are shown as text with links to their sources.

## Tell us about a barrier

If something on PG Pulse is hard or impossible for you to use, we want to know. Email [hello@princegeorgepulse.ca](mailto:hello@princegeorgepulse.ca?subject=Accessibility) or use the [feedback form](https://princegeorgepulse.ca/feedback/). You can also write to Ironclad Web Technologies, 375 Victoria Street, Prince George, BC V2L 4X4, Canada. Tell us the page address and what happened, and what device, browser or assistive technology you were using if you can. We will reply as soon as we can, and send you the information you need in another format in the meantime.
