# There is a bear in my yard. What do I do? How bad are the bugs?

Bring people and pets inside, do not approach, and report bears that are aggressive or getting into garbage to the Conservation Officer Service at 1-877-952-7277. Keep garbage carts inside until collection morning.

Checked October 1, 2026. Numbers update on their own.

Bears follow food: garbage, fruit trees, bird feeders and barbecues. Store carts in a garage or shed until 4 a.m. on pickup day, pick fruit early, and take feeders down from spring to fall. Report conflicts to the Conservation Officer Service’s RAPP line (1-877-952-7277). WildSafeBC maps reported sightings. Mosquitoes are worst in early summer, especially near water and after a wet spring.
