# What is council deciding, and where does my tax money go?

Council meets in public (agendas, minutes and video online); our civic pages explain how it works, our bylaw index lists every bylaw, and the spending pages show payments to suppliers, grants, contracts and council pay from the City’s open data.

This year’s City tax levy increase was 4.94%. The budget pages explain where it goes; the City’s Statement of Financial Information lists payments to suppliers and pay over the threshold each year, which our spending pages make searchable. Council agendas, minutes and video are public; closed meetings are allowed only for topics the Community Charter lists, such as land, legal advice and personnel.
