# Why is it hard to get a job here? Where are the jobs?

Our jobs page collects open postings from dozens of employers and job boards, with 782 open now. Health care, education, the trades, transportation and public service hire most; WorkBC helps with résumés and training for free.

Checked October 1, 2026. Numbers update on their own.

The regional unemployment rate is 6.2%. Many jobs need certification (trades tickets, nursing, Class 1, first aid), and the big employers post on their own sites, which we collect. Students and teens find seasonal work in retail, food service, the City’s summer programs and recreation. The WorkBC Centre on our services page offers free job search help.
