# Where can I find a pet-friendly rental?

Filter listing sites for pets allowed and ask property managers directly. In BC a landlord may refuse pets, but if they allow one they can charge a pet damage deposit of at most half a month’s rent.

Checked October 1, 2026. Numbers update on their own.

Pet-friendly units are a minority, so widen your search and have a pet résumé ready (vaccinations, licence, references). Under BC’s Residential Tenancy Act a landlord can ask for a security deposit and a separate pet damage deposit, each at most half of one month’s rent. Strata bylaws can restrict pets even when the owner agrees, so check before you sign.

Dogs in the city need a City dog licence; see our bylaws guide.
