# My landlord is giving me trouble. What are my rights?

Residential tenancies in BC are governed by the Residential Tenancy Act. The Residential Tenancy Branch explains the rules and resolves disputes; TRAC and Legal Aid BC give free advice.

Checked October 1, 2026. Numbers update on their own.

Start with the Residential Tenancy Branch: it covers rent increases (limited to a yearly maximum set by the Province), notices to end a tenancy, repairs, deposits and entry. Put everything in writing and keep copies. If you cannot resolve it, apply for dispute resolution with the Branch.

Free help: the Tenant Resource and Advisory Centre (TRAC) and Legal Aid BC, which has a Prince George office.
