## Common questions

**When is the Prince George municipal election?**

General voting day is Saturday, October 17, 2026, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Advance voting is Wednesday, October 7; Thursday, October 8; Wednesday, October 14; and Thursday, October 15, all 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Prince George Conference and Civic Centre.

**Do I need to register to vote in the Prince George election?**

No. The City uses same-day registration. Bring two pieces of ID that together show your name and residential address, with at least one showing your signature. A BC driver’s licence plus a utility bill or credit card works.

**Can I vote in Prince George if I own property but live elsewhere?**

Possibly, as a non-resident property elector. You must be a Canadian citizen, 18 or older, a BC resident since April 16, 2026, and a registered owner of Prince George property since September 16, 2026. Only one owner can vote per property, and you need consent from a majority of the owners. Corporate-owned property doesn’t qualify.

**How do I vote by mail in Prince George?**

Apply online, by email (election@princegeorge.ca) or in person by 4:30 p.m. on October 15, 2026. The City won’t mail packages after October 1, so pick yours up at City Hall if you apply later. Completed ballots must reach the Chief Election Officer before 8 p.m. on October 17.

**Is the provincial election the same as the municipal election?**

No. They’re separate. The municipal election (October 17) is run by the City. The BC provincial election (October 24) is run by Elections BC, with different voting places, eligibility dates and ID rules. You can vote in both.

**Is the bus free on election day?**

Yes. Prince George Transit is free on general voting days, which means October 17 for the municipal election and October 24 for the provincial election. Advance voting days aren’t free.
