## At a glance

- Prince George is split among three provincial ridings: Prince George-Mackenzie, Prince George-North Cariboo and Prince George-Valemount.
- The Legislature was dissolved for a snap provincial election. Voting day is Saturday, October 24, 2026.
- MLAs elected in October 2024: Kiel Giddens (Mackenzie), Sheldon Clare (North Cariboo) and Rosalyn Bird (Valemount), all as BC Conservatives.
- Most of the city is in the federal riding of Cariboo—Prince George—Omineca (called Cariboo—Prince George until September 2026), held by Conservative MP Todd Doherty.
- Some of the city north of the Nechako is in Prince George—Peace River—Northern Rockies (MP Bob Zimmer).

Prince George residents are represented by three levels of government. This page covers the **provincial** (MLAs) and **federal** (MPs) levels. For local government, see [city council](https://princegeorgepulse.ca/civic/city-council/) and [regional district](https://princegeorgepulse.ca/civic/regional-district/).

## Provincial: BC Legislature

> **Election under way.** On **September 22, 2026**, Premier David Eby called a snap election, and the writs were issued for BC’s 44th general election. The Legislature is dissolved during the campaign. **Voting day is Saturday, October 24, 2026.** Nominations close at 1 p.m. on October 3, and Elections BC will then post the final candidate list.

### Prince George’s three ridings

| Riding | Elected October 2024 | Notes |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Prince George-Mackenzie** | Kiel Giddens (BC Conservative) | Includes northern parts of the city and extends to Mackenzie |
| **Prince George-North Cariboo** | Sheldon Clare (BC Conservative) | First contested in 2024 after redistribution |
| **Prince George-Valemount** | Rosalyn Bird (BC Conservative) | Includes the southeastern part of the city and the Robson Valley |

Party standings shifted during 2026. Rosalyn Bird left the Conservative caucus in August 2026 and briefly sat as an Independent and then with CentreBC, before **rejoining the BC Conservative caucus on September 22, 2026**, according to local reporting. All three, Giddens, Clare and Bird, have been reported as running again as BC Conservatives. **Check Elections BC’s official candidate list** after October 3 for who’s on your ballot.

### Constituency offices

From the Legislative Assembly’s member directory. The Assembly’s site still lists Rosalyn Bird as an Independent.

| Riding | Office | Phone | Email |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Prince George-Mackenzie | #102-1023 Central Street W., Prince George | 250-612-4194 | [Kiel.Giddens.MLA@leg.bc.ca](mailto:Kiel.Giddens.MLA@leg.bc.ca) |
| Prince George-North Cariboo | 4621 Hwy 16 West, Prince George (also #401-410 Kinchant Street, Quesnel) | 250-991-0296 (Quesnel) | [Sheldon.Clare.MLA@leg.bc.ca](mailto:Sheldon.Clare.MLA@leg.bc.ca) |
| Prince George-Valemount | 1350 5th Avenue, Prince George | — | [Rosalyn.Bird.MLA@leg.bc.ca](mailto:Rosalyn.Bird.MLA@leg.bc.ca) |

Party leadership also changed just before dissolution: Kerry-Lynne Findlay resigned as BC Conservative leader in September 2026, and **Lorne Doerkson** (Cariboo-Chilcotin) became interim leader.

### How Prince George has voted

The BC Liberals held Prince George-Mackenzie (Mike Morris) and Prince George-Valemount (Shirley Bond) from 2013 through 2020. In 2024 the BC Conservatives won all three city ridings with between 55% and 61% of the vote. See every candidate and turnout figure on our [election results page](https://princegeorgepulse.ca/civic/results/).

Riding boundaries inside the city follow rivers, highways and major streets. Use Elections BC’s **Where to Vote** tool or your Where to Vote card to confirm yours.

### How to vote on October 24

- **Eligibility:** Canadian citizen, 18+ on October 24, and a **BC resident since April 23, 2026**.
- **Register** or update your address at elections.bc.ca/register. Voters registered by October 1 get a Where to Vote card in the mail; if you missed that, you can still register when you vote.
- **Advance voting: October 16 to 21**, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- **Vote by mail:** request a package by **October 18**. It must be received by 8 p.m. on October 24.
- **Final voting day: Saturday, October 24**, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., at your assigned voting place.
- **ID:** you must prove your identity and residential address. Elections BC lists accepted ID, and your Where to Vote card can count as one piece.
- **Transit is free** on voting day.

Final results are expected after the final count, scheduled for November 10, 2026.

This is a **different election** from the October 17 municipal vote. See [election 2026](https://princegeorgepulse.ca/civic/election-2026/).

### What your MLA handles

Provincial responsibilities include health care and hospitals (through Northern Health), K–12 education funding, post-secondary, highways (97 and 16), and housing policy and targets. The province also handles income and disability assistance, forestry, mining and natural resources, ICBC, liquor and cannabis regulation, and the laws that govern municipalities. MLAs run constituency offices that help residents with provincial programs. Contact details are on the BC Legislature’s member pages (offices may run differently during the campaign).

## Federal: House of Commons

### Prince George’s ridings

| Riding | MP | Party | First elected |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| **Cariboo—Prince George—Omineca** (until Sept. 2026: Cariboo—Prince George) | **Todd Doherty** | Conservative | 2015; re-elected April 28, 2025 |
| **Prince George—Peace River—Northern Rockies** | **Bob Zimmer** | Conservative | Re-elected 2025 |

- **Cariboo—Prince George—Omineca** covers most of the city, plus Vanderhoof, Quesnel, Williams Lake, 100 Mile House and the Chilcotin. In September 2026, the riding’s name changed from Cariboo—Prince George to **Cariboo—Prince George—Omineca** under Bill C-25 (the House of Commons member pages use the new name), to better reflect the Vanderhoof area. The boundaries didn’t change.
- **Prince George—Peace River—Northern Rockies** includes the part of Prince George **north of the Nechako River and east of the Fraser**, plus the Peace region.

Conservatives have won both ridings at every election since they were first contested in 2015. In 2025 Doherty took 60.3% and Zimmer 71.1% of the vote. Full results are on our [election results page](https://princegeorgepulse.ca/civic/results/).

**Contact:** Todd Doherty, [todd.doherty@parl.gc.ca](mailto:todd.doherty@parl.gc.ca), 1520 3rd Ave, Prince George (Ottawa office 613-995-6704). Bob Zimmer, [bob.zimmer@parl.gc.ca](mailto:bob.zimmer@parl.gc.ca), Prince George office 250-561-7982.

Confirm your riding by entering your postal code on the House of Commons website.

### What your MP handles

Federal responsibilities include immigration and citizenship, Employment Insurance, the Canada Pension Plan and Old Age Security, income tax (CRA), passports, national defence, Indigenous–Crown relations, fisheries, rail and airports, and federal infrastructure funding. MP constituency offices help with federal files like passports, immigration cases, EI and CRA problems.

The next federal general election isn’t scheduled until 2029 unless one is called earlier.

**Who is the MP for Prince George?**

Todd Doherty (Conservative) has represented the riding since 2015 and was re-elected in April 2025. Called Cariboo—Prince George until September 2026, it is now Cariboo—Prince George—Omineca (same boundaries). **How do I find which riding I live in?**
