According to BC Hydro, more than 90% of its generation is hydroelectric, and over 80% of its installed capacity sits in the Peace and Columbia river basins. The Peace River dams northeast of the city are the closest major sources, including the new [John Horgan Dam and Generating Station](https://www.bchydro.com/energy-in-bc/projects/john-horgan-dam.html) (formerly Site C), BC Hydro's third dam on the Peace, rated at 1,100 to 1,230 MW. Locally, the City's [Downtown Renewable Energy System](https://www.princegeorge.ca/community-culture/environment-sustainability/downtown-renewable-energy-system) heats about a dozen downtown buildings, including the Conference and Civic Centre, City Hall, the Canfor Leisure Pool and the Bob Harkins library branch, with hot water from a Lakeland Mills system that burns sawmill residues.
