## Climate at a glance

Honestly: winter is long. Snow lies on the ground from about December through March (around 24 cm deep at its peak), January afternoons average -3.9°C, and on about 17 days a year it drops below −20°C. Summers make up for it: long, warm days with July highs around 22.6°C, and June is the wettest month. Some summers bring wildfire smoke.

#### facts

- **asOf**: 2026-09-30
- **unverified**: Exact employee headcounts for individual Prince George employers: the City publishes only size bands (400+, 100 to 400). Northern Health's 8,200+ is region-wide, not Prince George only., Downtown Revitalization Tax Exemption bylaw name and number: the brochure and incentives page do not name it, and a web search could not be completed., Whether Multi-Family Housing Incentive Bylaw No. 8679 was extended or amended after the 2018 consolidation, or is still open to applications., Any current (2026) City multi-family or rental housing tax incentive or DCC reduction program: none found on princegeorge.ca., Current status of the Foreign Trade Zone point: the 2018 federal release was verified, but the Government of Canada's current FTZ listing pages could not be reached., ICBC published average Basic premium: not found on ICBC's insurance cost pages., Details of Prince George Airport Authority industrial land leasing (only the City's profile figure of 1,214 ha was verified)., City's own 'workforce by industry' table (for example health care 11,600, 14.4%): the page gives no geography or year, so it is omitted in favour of the 2021 Census., CNC enrolment differs between sources: about 5,000 a year (cnc.bc.ca, undated) and 8,700 in 2024 (City Business Investment Guide); both are kept with their sources.

#### rates

- **source**: City of Prince George, annual tax rate tables (Finance); cross-checked against Province of B.C., Local Government Statistics, Schedule 702 (Tax Rates)
- **sourceUrl**: <https://www.princegeorge.ca/city-services/utilities-taxes/property-taxes>
- **asOf**: 2026-09-30
- **notes**: Rates are dollars per $1,000 of taxable assessed value. "municipal" is the sum of the four City levies shown on the City table (General, Snow Control Reserve, Road Rehabilitation, General Infrastructure Reinvestment Fund); the Province's Schedule 702 "Municipal" line equals the same sum. "regionalDistrict" is the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George levy and "regional911" the regional 9-1-1 levy (Schedule 702 combines both as "Reg'l District"). "hospital" is the Fraser-Fort George Regional Hospital District; "bcAssessment" is BC Assessment (BCAA); "mfa" is the Municipal Finance Authority (Schedule 702 combines BCA and MFA as "Other"). "school" is the provincial school tax; "schoolCredit" is the School Tax Farm Credit (class 9, all years) or the School Tax Industrial Credit (class 4, 2021-2022) printed on the City table. "total" is the City table total, which includes those credits, so class 9 (and class 4 in 2021-2022) totals are lower than the Schedule 702 totals, which show school tax before credits. The 2024 City table is not linked from the property taxes page; it was retrieved from the City site at the URL given. Schedule 702 for 2020 is included for Prince George only (class breakdown as published by the Province); the City 2020 table was not transcribed. Class 3 is supportive housing and class 7 managed forest land.

#### utilities

- **source**: City of Prince George, Paying your bill (residential flat utility rates, metered rates, due dates); Comprehensive Fees and Charges Bylaw No. 7557, 2004 (consolidated to December 15, 2025), Schedules A-6 (garbage), A-9(b) (sanitary sewer) and A-16(b) (water)
- **sourceUrl**: <https://www.princegeorge.ca/city-services/utilities-taxes/paying-your-bill>
- **bylawUrl**: <https://www.princegeorge.ca/sites/default/files/2025-12/BL7557_CONSOLIDATED_2025-12-15.pdf>
- **asOf**: 2026-09-30
- **notes**: Flat residential utilities are billed twice a year (January to June, July to December). The bylaw sets water and sewer as monthly flat rates and garbage per 3-month period; six-month amounts here are those rates times 6 (water, sewer) or times 2 (garbage), and for 2026 they match the City table exactly. The City table's second, 5% higher amount ("Single-Family + 5%", "Strata + 5%") is the amount owed if the bill is paid after the due date: the bylaw states "The user rate for all consumer accounts rendered shall be subject to a penalty of five percent (5%) if the account is paid after the due date as printed on the utility bill" (Schedules A-6(b) s.2, A-9(b) s.9.1, A-16(b) s.4; re-established by amending Bylaw No. 9269, 2021, effective December 20, 2021). It is not a discount. Strata sewer uses the bylaw line "Multiple Family Dwelling and/or Strata, per dwelling unit"; strata water uses "Strata Title Unit". Metered rates apply to commercial and residential metered accounts, billed quarterly, plus a capacity charge by service size; sewer metered rate is set at 90% of the water rate. 1,000 imperial gallons = 4,546 litres. 2027 rates are the scheduled rates already adopted in the bylaw. Container exchange fee to a larger garbage cart: $30.00.
- **unverified**: Flat utility rates for 2021-2023 (not in the current bylaw consolidation; not verified from another City source), "If paid late" amounts for years other than 2026 are not published by the City; only the 2026 table amounts are included

For the 2026 tax year the northern and rural amounts ($770 regular, $1,045 additional) still apply, consistent with the 2026 zero-grant values the Province publishes.

- **summary**: Building permit fees are set in Schedule A-1 of the Comprehensive Fees and Charges Bylaw No. 7557 (amended by Bylaw No. 9486, 2024). Every application pays a $100 non-refundable processing fee. For Part 9 and Part 3 construction (commercial, institutional, industrial, multiple-residential of 3 or more units, and retaining walls) the fee is based on the entire cost of the project including labour: $200 up to $10,000, then $200 plus $6.50 per $1,000 or part of $1,000 above that. For single-family and two-unit residential work the schedule lists unit values per square foot (for example $152 per ft² finished area, $124 unfinished). If the declared construction value is lower than the Marshall Valuation Service value, the Marshall value is used. Fees drop 2.5% under professional reliance (letters of assurance by a coordinating registered professional).

Components: school tax, general municipal tax, regional district tax, regional hospital district tax and BC Assessment, MFA and other levies add up to total variable rate taxes; adding parcel taxes and user fees (for example water, sewer and garbage) gives the total. House value is the representative house assessed value used by the Province. Figures are before the home owner grant. Nanaimo and Abbotsford appear as "Nanaimo - C" and "Abbotsford - C" in 2020-2022 and are normalized here. Schedule 702 residential totals for Prince George (per $1,000) are in taxes-rates.json.
