Safety and what is going on

Is Prince George dangerous? Why is the crime rate high?

Prince George’s crime severity index is well above the BC average, driven mostly by property crime and concentrated in a few areas. Our safety dashboard shows the trend since 2000 and reported property crime by neighbourhood.

Checked October 1, 2026. Numbers update on their own.

The crime severity index is 193.8, against 92.4 for BC (Statistics Canada, police-reported). The index weighs each offence by seriousness and is pushed up in regional hubs by property crime, addiction and the city serving a large area. Most incidents are theft, theft from vehicles and mischief, concentrated downtown and on commercial strips. Lock cars, do not leave valuables visible, and register cameras with the RCMP if you have them.
