What we check, and how fresh it is
  • Loading…

We check weather and air quality warnings from Environment and Climate Change Canada, wildfires and evacuation orders and alerts within 100 km, fire bans, road closures within 150 km, power outages within 30 km and transit disruptions. Provincial emergency alerts (the loud phone alerts) and local evacuation notices come from EmergencyInfoBC and the Regional District’s alerting system. Neither publishes a feed we can show here, so sign up below.

Emergency departments

Is the emergency department open? Check Northern Health’s live statusHospitals and day health centres across the region, with re-opening times, updated by Northern Health every 10 minutes. Northern Health’s terms of use do not allow reusing its pages, so we link to its live status page instead.

If an emergency department is temporarily closed and you need emergency care, call 9-1-1: paramedics take you to the nearest open one.

Evacuation zones and assembly points

Prince George has nine pre-planned evacuation zones: five follow the garbage collection zones (with minor changes) and four, named by letter, fall outside them. People with vehicles go to the Emergency Reception Centre at Exhibition Park unless an order says otherwise; people without a vehicle walk to the nearest evacuation assembly point; people with mobility issues are picked up door to door.

Local alerts and evacuation notices are sent by text, call or email to people who have signed up.
