Terms of use
The ground rules for using PG Pulse and sending us things to publish.
Last updated
PG Pulse is run by Ironclad Web Technologies ("we"). By using PG Pulse you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site. How we handle personal information is covered separately in our privacy policy.
An independent guide
PG Pulse is an independent website about Prince George, British Columbia. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or run on behalf of local government, or the public bodies and utilities whose information we summarise. For official decisions, notices and payments, always use the official source we link to.
Accuracy of information
We work hard to keep things right, but the site is provided “as is” and we can’t guarantee that anything on it is complete, current or error-free. In particular:
- Live data such as weather, air quality, river levels, wildfires, road conditions, outages and bus times comes from third-party sources and can be delayed, missing or wrong. In an emergency, follow official alerts from Emergency Info BC, BC Wildfire Service, DriveBC and local authorities, and call 911 if lives are at risk.
- Business listings are built from the City’s business licence registry, the businesses' own websites, owners' updates and Google Maps. Hours, prices and services change: call ahead before you go.
- News items are headlines, images and short descriptions linking to the original publisher. The publisher is responsible for the story.
- Guides and tools (such as garbage day, hydro bill estimates and election results) are for general information, not legal, financial or professional advice.
To the extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for any loss that comes from relying on information on the site. Spotted a mistake? Tell us at hello@princegeorgepulse.ca and we’ll fix it.
Things you send us
You can submit local artist profiles and photos, business listing updates, awards nominations and corrections. When you do:
- You confirm the content is accurate, that you have the right to share it (including any photos), and that it doesn’t infringe anyone else’s rights.
- You keep ownership, and you grant PG Pulse a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to publish, edit for length and clarity, format, translate into other layouts, and share it on the site, in our newsletter, on social media and through our free API, for as long as it’s listed and a reasonable time after.
- We may review, edit, decline or remove any submission at our discretion, for example if it’s inaccurate, out of date, off-topic or breaks these terms.
- If you manage a business listing or artist profile, you’re responsible for keeping it accurate and for how you deal with people who contact you through it.
Acceptable use
Please don’t use PG Pulse to:
- submit anything unlawful, hateful, harassing, defamatory, sexually explicit or misleading, or impersonate someone else;
- send spam, or use contact details shown on the site for unsolicited bulk messages;
- manipulate the PG Pulse Awards, for example with scripts, bots, fake accounts or paid votes (see the awards rules);
- scrape the site at a rate that affects other visitors, get around rate limits, or try to access accounts, admin pages or data that aren’t yours;
- interfere with the site’s security or operation, or upload malware.
We may block access, remove content or close accounts that break these rules.
The free API and our content
Our free API is the way to reuse our data. Its terms, attribution rules and the licence for each data source are on the attribution and licences page. PG Pulse's own written content and compiled data are available under CC BY 4.0 with credit to PG Pulse; third-party data, news images, logos and photos remain the property of their owners and aren’t covered by that licence.
Ads and sponsored listings
We’re funded by local advertising. Paid ads are always labelled Sponsored, paid business listings are labelled Sponsored too, and our own promotions are labelled From PG Pulse. Advertisers don’t control our news, guides, data or awards results, and a sponsorship never buys votes or a better ranking in the awards. Advertisers are responsible for the claims in their ads. To advertise, see advertise with us.
Links to other sites
We link to many other websites, including businesses, publishers and government services. We don’t control them and aren’t responsible for their content, availability or privacy practices.
General
These terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. We may update them from time to time; the date at the top shows the latest version, and continuing to use the site means you accept the updated terms.
