Which neighbourhood should I live in, and which areas are safe?
Compare the City’s 31 neighbourhoods on our neighbourhood pages: each shows its boundary, reported property crime for the last 12 months, bus routes and businesses. College Heights, the Hart and the plateau areas are suburban; downtown and the older central areas are walkable but report the most property crime.
Checked October 1, 2026. Numbers update on their own.
Every neighbourhood page shows reported property crime (RCMP open data, last 12 full months), so you can compare areas with numbers instead of reputation. Reported property crime concentrates downtown and in the central neighbourhoods around it; most outlying residential areas report far less.
Other things to weigh: the bus routes near you, commute to work or campus, and which side of the city gets more mill smell on still days. Local subdivision names (Birchwood Heights, Southridge, Highland Park and so on) are matched to City neighbourhoods in our alias table.
